Zinc Dust APPLICATIONS
Zinc Dust is used in Paints Industry in zinc rich paint to protect steel surfaces from corrosion. An essential component of most heavy duty coatings, Zinc Dust’s rich paint is used in the protection of major structures such as offshore oil rigs, steel bridges, petrochemical and powder industries. Other applications of Zinc Dust include the painting of sea containers and in the construction and maintenance of ships and marine equipment.
Zinc Dust is used extensively used in mechanical plating / galvanizing, whereby small steel parts (screws, fasteners, rivets, bolts) are coated with a uniform layer of zinc, providing enhanced corrosion protection without the introduction of Hydrogen embrittlement.
In Plastics Industry, Zinc Dust provides hardness and low abrasion to the polyester resin moulds that are used in the production of plastic parts. Zinc dust is also used as a filler to increase impact strength, heat distortion temperature and thermal conductivity.
In Coatings, Zinc Dust acts as a component of primer for galvanized steel and for the preparation of zinc rich paints.
Employed in Lubricant Industry in a variety of applications, Zinc Dust contributes to anti-galling, anti-seizing and sealing of specialty lubricants and sealants, due to its ability to plate out on metal surfaces.
In Chemical Industry, Zinc Dust is used in the production of other chemicals used in the textile and paper industries and in the manufacture of zinc hydrosulfite, as a precipitating agent in metallurgical operations for recovery of gold and other metals.
Zinc Dust is used as a reducing/ precipitating agents in Metallurgical Industry in the recovery of precious metals.
Storage:
- Store containers containing Zinc Dust at ambient temperature and in a cool. dry place away from direct sunlight, heat and incompatible materials
- Ambient concentrations of Zinc Dust should be monitored and if the recommended exposure limit is exceeded, a NIOSH/MSHA approved dust respirator must be worn.
- Use while handling or using Zinc Dust, local ventilation if dusting is a problem, to maintain air levels below the recommended exposure limit.
- Store containers containing Zinc Dust away from food and beverages.
- Reseal containers containing Zinc Dust immediately after use.
Zinc Dust Shelf Life: Unlimited in tightly closed container
